If you are considering
purchasing an old car that is already painted be sure to ask someone who is knowledgeable
about body work to check it for you. That beautiful body may just be full of Bondo! If
you're by yourself you can check it with a good soft flexible magnet (one that won't
scratch the surface).
Have you watched any of those car builder TV shows lately? Have you noticed the amount of
body filler that is being used to smooth out a car in preparation for paint? They slather
it on like it is mud! This concerns us.
In the line of work we do we see a lot of unsafe and shady workmanship and one thing we
are seeing more of lately is the presence of Bondo. Bondo is a great product when used to
cover minor defects in bodies but we are noticing that it is being used IN PLACE OF
skillfull metal work. That's a shame since eventually over time cracks and unsightly
breaks will appear in those otherwise seamless bodies.
At our shop we stick to the premise that you can't go wrong with a strong foundation,
therefore we make sure that every car we work on is metal-finished BEFORE it is sent to
the body man for paint. Top notch metal work may take a little more time and therefore it
may cost a little more money but in the long run it pays off. Just having peace of mind
that your expensive pristeen paint job will never fall snare to Grand Canyon size craters
and valleys is worth it.
I hope you have checked out our new parts website, www.ruttersparts.com. We continue to
sell parts at very reasonable prices through our online parts stores. You can follow the
link to them from our Home Page. Parts manufactured by companies we know and trust and
great service are our top priorities.
Rutter's Rod Shop will continue to do our best to keep up with the latest and greatest in
this industry. Be sure to let us know if we can help you with your project!
